Taufiq Umar tests positive for Covid-19

Karachi: The Covid-19 has its effect on another sporting figure as former Pakistan Test cricketer, Taufiq Umar has been tested positive after experiencing symptoms of the widespread virus infection.

“I went through pertinent testing procedure at the Shaukat Khanum Memorial hospital in Lahore and received the positive report yesterday (Saturday)”, Taufiq Umar told this correspondent.

“I was experiencing symptoms like slight fever, body and head ache for a few days therefore went through the Covid-19 testing”, Taufiq Umar, the incumbent junior selector, added

The former left-handed batsman said that he was in self isolation at home and now his entire family would also undergo the Covid-19 testing.

The southpaw represented Pakistan in 44 Test matches between 2001 and 2014 scoring 2,963 runs. In 22 ODIs the opener accumulated 504 runs in 22 ODIs.

Taufiq, 38, was picked up as one of the members, last year, when the Pakistan Cricket Board announced the five-person men’s junior selection committee under former Test fast bowler Saleem Jaffar.
