Patel spins Gladiators to earn victory for Qalandars

Lahore: Quetta Gladiators were never easy from the word go when Lahore Qalandars asked them to bat on the turning Gaddafi stadium pitch on Saturday.

Left arm spinner Samit Patel decimated the Quetta Gladiators with magical figures of four for just five runs in his four overs. Shaheen Shah Afridi and Raja Farzan bagged two wickets each to reduce Quetta to 99/9 in 20 overs.

Only Sohail Khan (32 off 35), Zahid Mahmood (19 off 19) and Mohammad Nawaz (10 off 26) entered double digits from Quetta Gladiators.

After losing two quick wickets – Fakhar Zaman (20 off 13) and Sohail Akhtar (5 off 5) – Lahore marched to victory comfortably in 11.5 overs.

Mohammad Hafeez and Ben Dunk remained not-out on 39 off 32 and 30 off 21 balls respectively.

Lahore Qalandars, with four points in six games, are at the bottom while Quetta Gladiators, with six points in eights games, are at the fifth slot on the points table.

The chart is led by Multan Sultans followed by Peshawar Zalmi, Islamabad United and Karachi Kings.
