Karachi: Along with the entire world, the Federation of International Cricketers Associations (FICA) has also condemned and expressed grief over deadly incidents at two mosques in New Zealand’s city of Christchurch this morning.

“FICA, on behalf of its members and cricketers around the world, sends its prayers and sympathies to the people of Christchurch following today’s horrendous attacks”, FICA said.

“The global cricket community was shocked to hear that the Bangladesh cricket team was so close to the incident. The FICA has been in contact with the New Zealand Cricket Players’ Association and Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh and full support has been offered to the Bangladesh players and the touring squad on the ground”, FICA added.

Gunmen opened fired at two mosques in Christchurch before Friday afternoon prayers, killing dozens of worshippers.

Players of the visiting Bangladesh cricket team were close by one of the mosques while they heard continuous gunshots. They were later safely escorted back to hotel and the scheduled match, with the home side, has also been called off.
