Sharjeel smashes Islamabad out to ensure Kings’ semi-final slot

KARACHI: Karachi Kings, recovered from middle-over blows, to overtake Islamabad United by four wickets in their penultimate group match to qualify for the semi-final phase of the Pakistan Super League season five.
After the end of their campaign, Islamabad United, with seven points in the bag, are now out of the race for the semi-final slot.
Batting first Islamabad posted 136/6 in 20 overs. Hussain Tallat (37 off 30 balls) with Phil Salt (25 off 19) were prominent scorers for the two-time champions.
Kings’ Umaid Asif, Jordan, Immad, Arshad Iqbal and Iftikhar Ahmed shared a wicket each.
Sharjeel Khan and Babar Azam laid a 60-run foundation for the Kings to cruise through however Shadab’s back to back strikes pushed Karachi from 3-90 to 106-5 in the 17th over.
Chadwick Walton perished on 118 to transmit jitters in the Karachi’s dug out however Umaid and Jordon finished the job for the home side in the last over.
Sharjeel Khan for his sparkling innings, studded with three fours and four sixes, was declared man of the match.
Karachi Kings now on the second spot with eleven points in nine games, Peshawar Zalmi, with nine points, are at the third position, Lahore Qalandars, having eight points in nine matches, are fourth, Islamabad United with seven points at fifth while Quetta Gladiators, with seven points in the pocket in nine matches, are sitting at the bottom of the table.
