Akbar, Faizan Nawaz begin fifth QeA trophy round with tons

Karachi: The fifth round of the first class tournament, Quaid-e-Azam has begun at various stadiums here on Thursday.

In the televised match at the National stadium, Northern batted first against Khyber Pakhtunkhwa after winning the toss and accumulated 371-5 in 87 overs at the culmination of the day one. Faizan Riaz has scored an sparkling century and is unbeaten on 124 off 162 deliveries, stitched with 16 fours and a six. Other batsman Asif Ali is not-out on one. Mohammad Nawaz is the other century maker, of the day, who scored 146-ball 121 runs with two sixes and 15 fours, Nasir Nawaz was the other prominent batsman with 68.

For KP, off-spinner Sajid Khan got two wickets for 98, while Arshad Iqbal, Khalid Usman and Zohaib Khan have bagged apiece each so far.

At the UBL sports complex, Southern Punjab, while batting first against Central Punjab, posted 272-5 in 88.2 overs at the day end. Salman Ali Agha and Mohammad Umar are at the crease with 52 and three runs respectively. Earlier Umar Siddiq fell six runs short of his century and perished on 94. Zain Abbas was notable with 69 runs while Saif Badar piled up 22.

For Central Punjab Waqas Maqsood and Ahmed Safi siphoned off two wickets each.

At the State Bank stadium, Baluchistan have scored 333-3 against Sindh, in 87 overs on the opening day, courtesy 155 not-out by Akbar-ur-Rehman including four sixes and 12 fours. The other unbeaten batsman is Ayaz Tasawwur on 67.

Ali Waqas (46), Imran Farhat (33) and Azeem Ghumman (22) were the Baluchistan’s batsmen got dismissed.

Sindh’s Shahnawaz Dhani and Abrar Ahmed have shared a wicket each.
